A 100 years have passed since the moment the world entered the deadliest conflict ever. That misfortune of humanity started right here, in the heart of the Balkans. On this tour we will take you through different worlds and the shift will be sudden, from western civilisation to eastern ones, from Christianity to Islam, from monarchies to democracies, back and forth in time. The tour full of contradictions, bearing the name "WW1 tour" will acquaint you with the capitals of Austria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Hungary, taking you to the still unknown, unexplored, and even exotic bits of Europe.
Day 1: VIENNA, AUSTRIA
Our journey starts in Vienna. Transfer from airport to hotel. Overnight.
Day 2: VIENNA - BUDAPEST, HUNGARY (400km)
In the morning sightseeing of Vienna. Free time for lunch. After lunch departure for Budapest. Transfer to hotel. Overnight.
Day 3: BUDAPEST
In the morning sightseeing of Budapest, the second capital city of Austro-Hungarian Empire. Free afternoon. Overnight.
Day 4: BUDAPEST - NOVI SAD - BELGRADE, SERBIA (400km)
Early departure from Budapest. Stop for lunch in the capital of Vojvodina, Novi Sad, city with the largest fortifications of Europe. Continue to Belgrade. Transfer to hotel. Overnight.
Day 5: BELGRADE
Morning sightseeing of Belgrade. Free time for lunch and afternoon at leisure. Optional half-day trip to the countryside, exploring folklore and orthodoxy.
Day 6: BELGRADE - SARAJEVO, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA (300km)
After breakfast we hit the road and leave for Sarajevo, the epicentre of the disastrous war. The long switchback will give us a good introduction into what is about to follow. We will get into the whole thing and feel why the area is still involved in deep divisions and conflicts.
Day 7: SARAJEVO
Morning sightseeing of Sarajevo and visit of the Tunnel of Salvation. Free time for lunch and afternoon at leisure. Optional typical Bosnian cuisine experience.
Day 8: SARAJEVO - MOSTAR - DUBROVNIK, CROATIA (300km)
In the morning we leave for Mostar, another UNESCO site famous for its Ottoman medieval architecture. Stop for lunch and continue to Dubrovnik. Transfer to hotel. Overnight.
Day 9: DUBROVNIK
Morning sightseeing of Dubrovnik. Free afternoon with plenty of possibilities such as visiting the City walls, going on a boat trip, dining in the countryside with visit of the famous military outpost of the Empire. Transfer to hotel. Overnight.
Day 10: DUBROVNIK - SPLIT (220km)
Early departure from Dubrovnik. Sightseeing of Split visiting Diocletian’s Palace and the smallest cathedral of Europe, Cathedral of Saint Domnius. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. Transfer to hotel. Overnight.
Day 11: SPLIT - TROGIR - ZADAR (200km)
Exploring the jewels of Croatian coast, two of Dalmatia’s most beautiful cities, Trogir and Zadar. Transfer to hotel. Overnight.
Day 12: ZADAR - OPATIJA - PULA (400km)
Early morning leave for Opatija, posh fin-de-siecle resort town, where you can feel the past spirit of the Empire. Continue to Pula, main military harbour of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Transfer to hotel. Overnight.
Day 13: PULA - KOBARID - VRŠIČ - KRANJSKA GORA, SLOVENIA (300km)
Morning sightseeing of Pula. Continue to Kobarid. Have lunch and visit the WW1 Museum. Then start the adventurous ascent to a Julian Alps pass at Vršič, the invincible military point during the campaign; if we get lucky, catch a sunset on top of it and finish our day in the valley beneath. Transfer to hotel. Overnight.
Day 14: KRANJSKA GORA
A day to simply digest all the impressions and experiences from this trip and all that in one of the most magical places on Earth, Slovenian Alps. Overnight.
Day 15: KRANJSKA GORA - LJUBLJANA - VIENNA, AUSTRIA (450km)
On our way back to the place where we started we make a stop in Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana. Sightseeing and time for lunch. Afternoon ride to Vienna. Farewell dinner. Transfer to hotel. Overnight.
Day 16: VIENNA
Transfer to airport. End of services.
